By the Sea

Why photographic seascapes?  Again, going back to my interest in the Social Sciences, the sea is a link to our heritage.  In an instant, you're photographing something that was and is, all at the same time.  My photographs focus on the surrounding landscape rather than the sea, itself.

The sea itself is a great mystery to me.  It is blue (an odd thing for a photographer who works primarily in black-and-white to take note of), free, innocent, graceful, powerful, gentle, and unforgiving.  It will belong to no one, yet man continually struggles to control it.  The sea, however, will overcome and outlast us all.  It is a constant that continually transforms itself.
